Des Moines Public Schools has joined the Inclusion Revolution by partnering with Special Olympics of Iowa and creating opportunities for students of all abilities to be on their school’s Unified Sports teams. Unified Sports allows for students without intellectual disabilities to join in the sports experience by playing on a team with athletes with intellectual disabilities. This concept was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
Unified Sports kicked off with basketball during the fall of the 2019-20 school year and will continue into the spring with track season.
