DMPS Attendance Policy

Attention Parents:

What can you do to help your child attend school every day?
Check out these tips:

1. Make school attendance a priority- Talk about the importance of showing up for school every day and help your child maintain daily routines. Don’t let your child stay home unless truly sick. Complaints of headaches or stomach aches may be signs of anxiety.

2. Help your child stay engaged- find out if your child feels engaged by his classes and feels safe from bullies and other threats and stay on top of academic progress.

3. Communicate with the school- know the school’s attendance policy and check on your child’s attendance to be sure absences are not piling up. Get help from school officials, other parents, or community resources as needed.

4. Educate other parents- work with your school to find out from other parents and students what prevents them from getting to school- help others become more aware of the importance of good attendance.
