Call to Order 4:03 p.m. President, Cheri Judge called the meeting to order

Approval of Board Minutes

There was no August meeting.

Confirmation of officers elected to PTO board this year

Treasure’s Report – this was not discussed: notes from Nicole

1) Treasurer’s Report: We ended August with a balance of $15,499.75.

· We sold $624 in spirit wear and approximately $20 in spirit cups at registration.

· We spent $228.86 on the back to school breakfast –  $181.69 at Hy-Vee and $47.17 at Starbucks for coffee.  Hy-Vee was at capacity for catering that day and thus they could not provide the coffee.

2)  Budgets –  Our fiscal year ended 7/31.

· We had total income of $9446.89 on a budget of $8900

· We had total expenses of $8571.30 on a budget of $8900

· We had net income of $875.59 for the year

3)  Spirit wear – the spirit wear sales at registration brought us back in the black.  We now have income of $79.31 from spirit wear sales.

4)  Bond – Nicole sent Nationwide a check for $100 to renew our bond.

Committee Reports

Book Fair

· Will take place October 9th and 10th

· Ambassadors will not be in place yet

· Cyndi will need to work with Sherri – the ambassadors who helped last year should be able to help

· Cyndi is already off and running

· PTO will need to find volunteers to man spirit wear table during these evenings.

Fun Run

· Fun Run will take place September 30th at 9:00 a.m.

· Nicole – can we get Silver Chords to assist again this year>

· Jody will create flyers/registration forms for registration – will have at the spirit wear table.

· The Phan and Fuller families have agreed to let the proceeds from the Fun Run go towards a bench in memory of Lea and Josef

· Mr. Hoffman has agreed to allow the use of the Brody bathrooms during the event with the caveat that a volunteer be stationed inside to monitor

· Registration fee: $10

· T-shirts: $5 ($7 for XXL)

· Staff can register for free – need to pay for t-shirts

· Mr. Hoffman will emcee. Speak to the memorial bench and provide music

· DM Park & Rec as well as Southwestern Hill Association have been notified of the even

· We had 186 participants last year

· HyVee has not been asked for donations. Jody indicated they were not terribly receptive last year.

· Carol White has agreed to help man the table September 20-22 to accept registrations

· September 22nd final counts are due for t-shirts and color packets

· Shirts will be handed out the day of the event

· The day of the event, 6 volunteers will be needed at the registration table

Clubs Choice

· Sarah Thomas has agreed to chair this with the reassurance that Cheri will assist her

· Bob Vogel will do the kick-off

· Anyone who sells over 12 items will be entered in a drawing to win $400

· Pick up dates for goods will be November 21 and 28

· Cheri will provide Sherri with packet return dates


· Michele Combs will be the chair

· We need to communicate something very simple – what/where you purchase will not be indicated anywhere

· 76,000 points from food purchases = $150

· November meeting – Michele will promote Iowa/ISU competition for December 7 basketball game

· Staff contest???

Other Activities

· College visits – approved funding buses

· Volunteer Coordinator: Cindi DeMeyer

· Concessions Chair – Carol White – STRONG MAYBE

Principal’s Comments

· School is off to a great start

· Brody is gaining more and more students and receiving less and less money

· He indicated we’re not a Title 1 School even though 72% of the population is receiving free or reduced lunches. This means Brody does not receive $100K in additional federal funding.

· Fall fling – PTO will provide cookies. Date TBD (right before Halloween)

· If we do concessions this year, Sherri will help to promote for us

New Business

· A PTO volunteer form was placed in each teacher’s classroom for the open house

· The PTO approved funding up to $1200 for buses to take the entire 7th grade to at state park.. no many how many google searches I tried I couldn’t find the correct spelling

Upcoming PTO Events

o September 13—Open House 4:30-6:30 p.m.  Sell spirit wear/cups – we sold $258 worth of merch!!

o September 30–Color Fun Run at 9 a.m.

o October 6–Fall Fundraiser:  Club’s Choice kick off

o October 9—Fall Exhibition for 6th grade from 4-7 p.m.  Scholastic Book Fair and spirit wear/cups sales

o October 10–Fall Exhibition for 7th and 8th grade from 4-7 p.m.  Scholastic Book Fair and spirit wear/cups sales
