“Build a Better Mousetrap…CAR”

Eighth graders Mr. McCormack’s and Mr. Patel’s science classes at Brody Middle School, an IB World School, studied physics and motion using mousetraps as the basis for design to power vehicles in a “Build a Better Mousetrap … CAR” competition. Students were given mousetraps and implemented the IB design cycle to Investigate, Plan, Design, Create and Evaluate various ways to power the vehicles, constructing them from common items found in the home, including wood, cardboard and even CDs! Students then competed against one another to see whose vehicle could go the fastest and the farthest.
